Channels card options

The Channels card lets you assign components as channels to allow the SimForm app solver to identify them.

Option Description
Display options
  • Hide—Hides the components categorized in the card.
  • Show—Displays the hidden components categorized in the card.
Settings
Inlet Temperature Specifies the global inlet temperature of the cooling liquid.
Detect Baffles Automatically Allows the software to automatically categorize the baffles included in the channel.

When you disable Detect Baffles Automatically, you must add the baffles manually.

Selection Mode
Bodies Lets you define the cooling channels that are modeled with explicit physical bodies in your CAD model.
Faces Lets you define the cooling channels that are modeled as holes drilled in the mold bodies.
Inlet/Outlet Selection Mode Activates a selection mode that lets you designate surfaces as either inlets or outlets.

You must define one inlet and one or more outlets for each channel in your model.

Channel Definition
Add Assigns each body or face in the selection of your model to one cooling channel. The channels are named Channel 1, Channel 2, and so on.
Channels list Available when you categorize channels.

Opens the categorized channels list.

When you select a channel from the list, the name of the bodies that define the channel body and baffles are displayed.

Channels options:

  • Display Channel—Shows the categorized channel in the display window for verification.
  • Add Body—Adds the additional body selections to the channels that consist of multiple bodies in the body selection mode.
  • Pick Channel Face—Adds the additional face selections to the channels that consist of multiple faces in the face selection mode.
  • Add Baffle— Allows you to add baffles manually.
  • Set the water temperature for this channel only— Available after you define a channel inlet. Specifies the water inlet temperature for the selected cooling channel. If this temperature is not defined, the solver uses the global inlet temperature specified in the Inlet Temperature settings.
  • Remove Channel— Deletes the cooling channel definition from the channels list.

Cooling channel body options:

  • Add Face—Lets you add the selected face to a channel body in the face selection mode.
  • Remove Face—Lets you remove the selected face from a channel body in the face selection mode.
  • Remove Body—Deletes the selected cooling channel body definition.

Baffle options:

  • Repair Baffle—Allows you to repair the baffle by selecting edges and creating new faces to close the openings in the baffle surface in the face selection mode.
  • Edit Baffle—Allows you to edit the baffles by adding or removing existing faces from your model.
  • Remove Baffle—Deletes the baffle definition.
